Degree Apprenticeships

For some pupils, the idea of gaining on-the-job experience whilst working towards a degree is something that appeals to them. In this case, a degree apprenticeship would be best suited to their needs. However, this is perhaps considered an alternative route and therefore requires specialist guidance. We recognise this fact, and aim to equip our pupils with the necessary knowledge as early as possible, helping them to decide if this is the route for them and how to succeed in the application process.
Year 9 onwards
  • Pupils can attend a range of talks through our Careers and Futures programmes, becoming familiar with the full range of options available to them.

Year 10 onwards
  • Degree Apprenticeships are represented at our biannual Careers Fair, enabling pupils across the schools the opportunity to have one-to-one conversations with experts.
  • Pupils receive guidance about Degree Apprenticeships at Sixth Form Open Evening talks.
  • Each pupil sits down one-to-one with a member of the Senior Team to discuss their A level and future plans, including discussion of Degree Apprenticeships, with signposting to our expert staff for further conversation.
  • From Year 11 onwards, our PSHE programmes outline what Degree Apprenticeships are, how they work, and the benefits of considering one.
Sixth Form
  • Lower Sixth pupils engage in discussions with their tutors and mentors, including going through Degree Apprenticeships as an option.

  • Pupils are invited to attend external Degree Apprenticeship fairs, alongside visiting universities and other post-A level providers.

  • External providers and speakers present to pupils at our Higher Education evenings across the Foundation.

  • Dedicated time, including during National Apprenticeship Week, provide opportunities to talk with Apprenticeship providers and explore the range of options.

  • In tandem with our UCAS provision, pupils considering Degree Apprenticeship can arrange one-to-one conversations with our Careers Departments, attend lunchtime talks, and enrol onto our programme of support, including dedicated Degree Apprenticeship days led by staff experts.

  • In Upper Sixth (Year 13), pupils receive tailored support through the process of application, including interview practice as necessary.

“Ms Gilbert provided me with a lot of support. She helped me prepare for interviews and find a suitable apprenticeship pathway for me.”
