Music
As part of our musical education at the Foundation, we aim to cultivate confident, expressive individuals who can use music as a vehicle for creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth. Whether through classroom lessons, ensemble participation, or individual instruction, we are dedicated to unlocking the full potential of every pupil, empowering them to not only excel in music whist with us, but as they look to progress to life beyond school. This includes those students who look to progress to specialist conservatoires and music colleges; our most talented musicians, who have aspirations such as these, are provided with an array of unique opportunities and a level of specialist support as they look to progress along this pathway. Students from The Kingsley School, King's High School, and Warwick School have equal access to the below support:
Year 7 Onwards
-
All interested pupils are invited to attend recitals by current undergraduate Conservatoire members and professionals, with the opportunity to ask questions about the process of application.
-
Lower School music ensembles begin the process of preparing elite musicians for music college applications, focusing on developing rounded musicians with the full range of skills.
- Our Music enrichment programmes enable pupils to hear from visiting speakers and performers in the musical world, for example music therapy specialists and conductors.
- Directors of choral music across the Foundation are on hand to support pupils aspiring towards choral scholarships; the same is true for those pursuing organ scholarships.
Year 10 Onwards
-
Music Scholars and those enrolled on our Advanced Music Programmes receive tailored support including detailed tracking of musical progress followed by advice from our Heads of Music and their team about possible conservatoire applications.
-
The Advanced Music Programmes also provide pupils with discussion and honing of skills required by music colleges and degree courses, including preparation for auditions, the psychology of performance, conducting, directing chamber music and similar.
Sixth Form
-
A bespoke programme of support is developed for each pupil, to reflect the widely varying requirements of different courses. Pupils are given individualised mentoring for their applications for university music courses of music colleges, including audition and interview preparation.
“The support from the higher education staff and music teachers was invaluable when it came to pursuing my passions and making my university application… my music teachers encouraged academic discussions that transcended the curriculum, simultaneously fuelling my love of music and giving me crucial interview practice.”
