Alongside our broader UCAS provision, pupils applying for highly-competitive courses such as Law, Medicine, and Allied Sciences must be aware of the particular requirements and demands of their chosen subject. For Law in particular, candidates need to be aware that, as well as high grade requirements (normally AAA and above), an increasing number of universities require interviews on top of the entrance assessment required for entry. We offr a range of support for those looking to venture on the Law pathway from Year 9 onwards:

Year 9 Onwards

• Although the majority of the targeted support for Law applicants is given in Sixth Form, pupils are made aware at this stage of the support available and the dedicated work of the Law Coordinator. At this stage pupils can be set up with wider reading and sign posted to the wide range of enrichment activities that will help to cultivate skills that will later be useful for a Law application.

Sixth Form

In Sixth Form, Pupils can now attend weekly Law Pathway sessions, working closely with the Law Coordinator. They undertake a programme designed to enhance their critical thinking and problem solving skills. The programme includes weekly sessions that involve the following:

• Exploring different areas of Law, including public law, contract law, tort, equity, international law, property law and criminal law;
• Providing pupils with opportunities to read and analyse legal cases and texts;
• Enhancing pupils’ presentation and communication skills;
• Challenging pupils with complex legal problems in order to enhance their reasoning and critical observations, as well as developing their ability to explain difficult concepts in a considered, and effective manner;
• Formulating cogent and sustained arguments;
• Preparing pupils for the Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT) pre-admissions test;
• Discussing current affairs;
• Preparing pupils for interview (if required); and
• Engaging pupils with super-curricular activities, recommended reading lists and advice on their personal statements.
