Foundation Ensembles and Initiatives
Our Ensembles
At the Foundation, each of our pupils truly have the best of all worlds: each of our schools have their own, vibrant, dynamic music departments providing ensembles and opportunities bespoke to their pupils; we then come together to provide large musical ensembles of the highest quality, consisting almost entirely of pupils from across our schools with little need to supplement with other teachers.
Our Foundation Ensembles include:
- Two Foundation Symphony Orchestras (Senior and Prep/Junior)
- Foundation Chamber Choir
- Foundation Percussion Ensemble
- Foundation String Ensemble
- Foundation Wind Orchestra
Throughout the academic year, our Foundation Ensembles perform together in some outstanding performances. In recent times, this has included the Foundation Symphony Orchestra Spring and Winter concerts, the Junior Symphony Orchestra concert, and the outstanding Foundation Gala Concert at Butterworth Hall on Thursday, 28 November, which you can watch below.
Year 2 & 3 String Project
In Year 2 at Warwick Preparatory School and Year 3 at Warwick Junior School and Kingsley Prep, all pupils take part in our String Project. As part of this, every pupil learns the violin, viola, cello or mini bass as part of their class music lessons each week. This is to enable the pupils to experience all of the musical elements and music theory that they are taught, in a practical, enjoyable and fun way.
Year 7 Music Scheme
We encourage all of our pupils to engage with music and to develop their musical talent. In Year 7, every pupil across our three senior schools learns an instrument, empowering them to continue through the years ahead, which a large percentage do.
Each of our many choirs, bands, orchestras, groups, and ensembles feed into the musical education that the pupils receive, and add to the richness of the classroom teaching that we deliver.
At the Foundation Gala Concert at Butterworth Hall, our Year 7 choirs from all three senior schools harmonised for an exceptional rendition of Christopher Tin's Calling All Dawns; a perfect example of how our collaborative music at the Foundation can produce outstanding results.
