Music at Warwick Schools Foundation
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” Plato
At Warwick Schools Foundation, we inspire every pupil to discover and nurture their musical potential, regardless of their background or how they started on their musical journey.
We believe that music is a universal language: our commitment to ‘music for all’ ensures that every student can engage, create, and perform—enabled and empowered by our high calibre staff. Through a rich and diverse curriculum, we provide inclusive pathways that cater for all our musicians, from beginners —fostering a deep appreciation and love for music —right through to offering advanced, tailored opportunities for our most gifted musicians to refine their craft.
Many of our highest achieving musicians are members of national youth choirs, orchestras, or ensembles and, as a group of largely day schools with a thriving boarding facility, we have several who attend junior conservatoire on a Saturday, making full use of our excellent transport links north to Birmingham and south to London. Their pathway is supplemented by our unique Advanced Musician Programme (AMP) where they are joined by senior pupils from our thriving Jazz, Rock and Pop sections meeting each week as part of our super-curricular musical activities.
We cultivate confident, expressive individuals who can use music as a vehicle for creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth. Whether through classroom lessons, ensemble participation, or individual instruction, we are dedicated to unlocking the full potential of every pupil, empowering them to not only excel in music but to thrive academically and personally in school and beyond through the transformative power of the arts.
Our pupils benefit from our unique partnership with The Orchestra of the Swan, who, residing on our Myton Road campus, are truly embedded in our schools. They perform three concerts a year in our stunning Warwick Hall as well as working directly with all Year 7 pupils from across our three senior schools as well as with a large number of other pupils from the Prep, Junior and Senior schools through open rehearsals and ‘Come and play’ days. Their guest conductor, Rebecca Miller, teaches a cohort of conducting students from across the Foundation culminating in conducting the full orchestra at the end of each year: a truly unique opportunity for our students, seldom even offered at Conservatoire level.
We also believe that it is vital for our musicians to ‘find their voice’ with singing at the heart of their musical education. For those wishing to pursue this further, we have a thriving partnership with the Choirs at Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick with choral scholarships available. Many of our pupils are also involved in singing with one or more of the other wonderful choral groups we have in the town, for example, Contemporary Choir and Armonico Consort. There are opportunities for parents and friends to join us too, through ‘Canticum’, our Foundation Choral Society.
Our pupils truly have the best of all worlds: each of our schools have their own, vibrant, dynamic music departments providing ensembles and opportunities bespoke to their pupils; we then come together to provide large musical ensembles of the highest quality, consisting almost entirely of pupils from across our schools with little need to supplement with other teachers.
These include:
-
Two Foundation Symphony Orchestras (Senior and Prep/Junior)
-
Foundation Chamber Choir
-
Foundation Percussion Ensemble
-
Foundation String Ensemble
-
Foundation Wind Orchestra
Our students also benefit from opportunities provided by our work within the town, working with and joining pupils from the local primary schools and the local community through our ‘Warwick - A Singing Town” programme – which has been shortlisted for the ‘outstanding musical initiative’ in the Music and Drama Education Awards 2025. These opportunities are likely to be further enhanced through the creation of our new Multi Academy Trust (MAT).
Our musical programme is an invitation to explore creativity, develop lifelong skills and connect with a broader world through the universal language of music. Our curriculum is designed to support every individual’s journey, fostering confidence, discipline, and emotional wellbeing along the journey, providing not only musical skills but a foundation for success in all areas of life.
